So hi. Yes. Hello. There are many things. There are things that need to go here. But then I thought, why am I still using lj? LJ lost a lot of purpose as a social tool for me once we all started micro-blagging our lives on Facebook, but I still continued to use it as a tool for some of the complicated, highly personal stuff, because my network on lj is limited pretty much to my very close friends rather than every person I've ever chatted with for longer than 10 minutes. But Facebook notes work just as well for long-form information sharing as lj, and now that they offer flexible enough privacy settings to let me pick and choose who I share with, and now that most of my friends post on lj so rarely that I remember to check it once a week at best, why not just move all my oversharing there? So I think that's what I'm going to do. Starting....now.

Announcement:
My phone got stolen last night by some kind of crazy bitch and it's a long story, but right now, this is the only way to get in touch with me that I can think of that she can't access. If you need to get in touch with me for now, comment on this post.
DO NOT CALL, TEXT, EMAIL, OR FACEBOOK MESSAGE ME!!
ETA: Attempts to reason with the bitch who stole my phone were a failure, as were the best efforts of the cops, so I've suspended phone service. Email and Facebook are the best ways to get a hold of me now. I should have my phone replaced in a day or two.
But a bunch of my other shit got stolen, too. My driver's license and student ID, my keys, favorite lip gloss, adorable (NEW) wrist warmers that match my scarf, and my TRADEMARK FUCKING GODDAMN EARMUFFS ARGH. Man, I have to pay an $89 deductible to get my phone replaced, plus I'll have to pay for the new IDs and keys and maybe getting my locks replaced...I hope I can find cute new earmuffs that look similar. They're like my fucking thing. Why would you steal that shit?? Urghhh. This blows extremely hard.

O hai, I live.
And I blag on YouTube (here's part 2, because I accidentally made it too long). Told you it was coming — work and other issues have kind of been devouring me since I got to Japan, 'cause, you know, setting up a (temporary) new life and all, and also my job is kind of tough, but that's a story for the near future — but here it is. After, um, a month. BUT, things have finally settled down a bit here, I'm getting used to my job, and I won't feel the need to spend hours upon hours tediously composing opening slideshows for the rest of the posts, so you should be seeing more posts very, very shortly.
Don't get too excited about the pictures at the beginning — they come from the internet, not from my camera, as I explain in the video. Also, at the beginning, when I am nervous and stupid-sounding and talk about the purpose of my blog and teaching children, I mean that I'm chronicling my teaching of the children, not that I am attempting to teach children through my blog (because that would be weird). I'm too lazy to go back and do a second take.
So yeah, Japan is sweet, except my job, which is...bearable. Well, junior high is just bearable; elementary school is great. This will be detailed in future bloggages. Huzzah, life!
And now some memes.
( Sentence completion and mystery memes )
Also also: They're making a new X-Men animated series. I was dismayed. But it actually doesn't look bad. The new Iron Man, on the other hand...

So, um, psyche? It looks like my assignment isn't going to be in Numazu, after all.
I got an email from my branch manager today saying that they've had some personnel shifts and would like to know if I would be willing to accept an assignment in Hamamatsu, the seat of the branch, instead. Hamamatsu is in the same prefecture as Numazu, but on the west side instead of the east side, and directly on the ocean instead of on Suruga Bay. Hamamatsu is a significantly larger city than Numazu and is known as the "City of Music" because of its production of musical instruments and music competitions/concerts. It's about halfway between Tokyo and Osaka, which means I'll be about an hour/hour and a half further from Tokyo than I would have been in Numazu, but I'm closer to Osaka, which is where I wanted to be in the first place. The weather is similar except for a strong wind that blows in from the northwest in the winter, mostly in the northern part of the Hamamatsu area (it's very sprawled out). Because it's a larger city, Hamamatsu's English website is a lot more informative than Numazu's. Its Wikipedia article is also more extensive, and there's a Wikitravel guide. I'm guessing that the cost of living will probably be a little higher, but there'll probably also be more to see/do there. Flickr has some very pretty pictures.
I have mixed feelings because I had done all that research on Numazu and gotten psyched up about some of the cool things about it — proximity to Tokyo, Fuji-san, onsens (hot springs) and other touristy stuff on the Izu Peninsula — but Hamamatsu also has its fair share of similar stuff, plus other cool sights that Numazu doesn't have, and a shorter trip to Osaka. Every location in Japan is going to have its own unique ups and downs, so I'm just going to roll with it. Now to search around the internet to see if I can get in touch with any other ALTs in the area.

If I were to visit Pville from August 4th to the 7th, is there anyone who would be able to put me up? :3
And, y'know, will people be around for hangouts and stuff?

I has a placement!
I'm going to be in Numazu City in Shizuoka Prefecture (yes, I read the part about the earthquake). You can see Numazu on a map here and read more about Shizuoka here. It sounds really cool! There are 24 other ALTs in my area, so it shouldn't be hard to make friends. The location of the city should be very convenient for retaking the LSATs in Tokyo in October. And I no longer need to worry about the risk of getting stuck out in the boondocks — nor will I need a car. Huzzah!
I'll be able to see Fuji-san from my city! How cool is that? I'm so happy I got (what appears to be) a great placement!

Ok, so I've been missing some things since, uh, Yule Ball, but I kept forgetting to ask about them. I got a bunch of the stuff back from Drea the other day, but there's still a couple things missing. Did either of the following fall into anyone's hands circa Yule Ball makeup/hair session?
- Black hair clip - Tube of foundation (Drea had one of them; I'm still missing the other one. It's a white bottle, possibly Mary Kay.)
Probably not so likely at this point, but I thought I'd give it a try.

Today's International Grocery Store adventure:
Roasted eel in a can: Ok, but it needs some rice or something. Rose-flavored drink: Fail. Salty yogurt flavored soda (yes, you heard that right): EPIC FAIL. Couldn't even swallow it. Why did I feel the need to try a beverage clearly labeled "yogurt flavored soda"? With salt listed as one of the ingredients? Because I'm Carrie, and that's how I do.
I also bought some packets of crazy Turkish mystery soup mix. Results TBA.
I've actually been doing this "go to the international or asian grocery store and pick up interesting-looking foods to try" thing for a long time, but for some reason it never occurred to me to share on livejournal. Generally the results are not great, but it's still fun. Good finds have included Philipino banana ketchup, Milkis, and Mi Goreng noodles. My nastiest discoveries have been the above-mentioned yogurt soda, a pennywort drink, and a Korean beverage with rice in it. From now on, I will document these experiments on lj.
A more detailed entry about Japan is forthcoming.
Oh, also. I'm thinking I would like to make my journal friends-only. Does anyone know of any mass-security tools other than the one provided by LJ, which is only available for paid accounts?

Before I leave State College, which will be sometime between June and August, I would like to do the following:
Eat at: - Kaarma (never eaten there)
- Herwigs (it's been too long) - Possibly that Viet Thai restaurant by the greyhound station (never eaten there either) [Edit]
- Get wings from Hooters — takeout. - Spat's maybe? /Edit]
Possibly what-a-blast laser tag.
Um...I thought I had a list in my head of things to do in State College, but now that I go to write it down it seems like it might have only been food and laser tag. If I think of anything else later, I'll add it.
P.S. Holy shit, I am done with papers, forever. And by "forever" I mean "until law school."
